Dr Jeremy Hapeta (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Huia) is a Lecturer from Massey University who teaches Hauora within the Physical Education Major at the College of Health’s School of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition.
Jeremy is a fully registered teacher (by trade) who previously taught at Primary, Intermediate and Secondary Schools in New Zealand as well as having taught English in Japan and both PE and English in Italy.
As a Kaupapa Māori researcher Dr Hapeta is particularly interested in the use of Sport to improve the social determinants of health & wellbeing and educational achievement for Māori and Pasifika students.
Previously he acted as the Māori cultural advisor for High Performance Squash New Zealand’s elite athletes. He currently sits on the Physical Literacy Approach (PLA) Academic Reference Group for Sport NZ.
