Dr Coral Dixon, MBChB, BHB, Dip Paeds, General Practitioner (FRNZCGP)
Coral is a family doctor in Mount Maunganui, where she lives with her husband Brad and two girls. Coral studied medicine at Auckland University, then spent 10 yrs in both in NZ and overseas hospitals. She has spent the last 11 yrs in General Practice in the Bay of Plenty. Coral has a key interest in “preventative medicine”, after seeing first-hand the evolving poor health outcomes which follow on from suboptimal nutrition and unhealthy lifestyle habits.
“I am still amazed at how often I discover during a consultation that the underlying reason for the client’s chronic health issues is likely to be directly related to their food and/or specific lifestyle choices. The fun part is showing clients that there is a different way, my experience is that patients love it!”
Coral and her family have gradually moved toward a whole food plant-based diet over a period of almost 5 yrs, with the whole family being whole food vegan in the last 2-3yrs, both for long-term health of our environment and personal health.
“I love to remind myself (and my husband) that it was not long ago that we were oblivious to many of the issues which we now recognise as super-important. I believe there is a great need for people who have thrived on a WFPB diet to be warm and welcoming”
Coral attended the first plant-based conference in 2018 and loved it!
